Keep Them Coming Back – Update Your Site

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

by: Richard Lowe, Jr.

If you are anything like me, your website is a reflection of yourself. It contains your thoughts and communications, exposed to the entire world at all times. Look at virtually any non-commercial web site and you will get a glimpse at the person behind the monitor.

I look at web sites all day long, and I am constantly amazed by the things that people reveal about themselves without saying anything. Is the website well organized or just a jumble of images and text thrown up at a moments notice? Is the site alive with color or just dull and lifeless black and white? Is the site exploding at the seams with content or is it just a collection of ads, banners or links?

All of these and many other clues tell me more about the webmaster than any of those 50 question psychological quizzes.

One clue that tells me more than anything else is whether or not the site is kept up-to-date. Sometimes I will see a beautiful web page – a work of art that comes from the heart and soul of a human being. I fall in love with the page and want to learn more, then click on a link and bam, page not found. I shrug, as every webmaster has a bad link now and then. Click on another, and another, and more than half of the links are dead. I sigh, then move on.

Or I’m reading wonderful stories about a person’s life experiences and find, well, these are all years out of date. A little looking around the site and I find that nothing has been updated since 1997. I always feel a little sad when I see this – it’s as if something inside the webmaster died. I wonder, did she grow tired of it all? Get married and lose interest? Perhaps even died? Who knows, there is no clue on the site at all. It’s just … abandoned.

Another clue to a neglected site – the person created a webring and got several hundred people to join. The ring is obviously a creation of love as it’s not easy to get so many sites to join up. The ring graphics are wonderful, the join page is beautifully written, and I am actually very impressed. I start to surf the ring and quickly find that over half the sites no longer exist. Another dozen have removed the ring code. How sad. It’s one thing to lose interest in a webring … but to just abandon it? I wonder what changed in a person’s life caused this work of love and community to just be discarded so easily.

Or it could be that a person and simply doesn’t update their site very often. There is a wonderful comic book site which is simply beautiful, yet sometimes months go by without a single update! It’s so frustrating as I really am intrigued and want to come back to visit this guy’s private world. I haven’t checked in a long time – why bother, since the site is updated so infrequently?

My feeling is simple. Create the best website that you can with the knowledge that you have. You will never be finished, as there will always be more to say and show. You are a living, breathing human and you are learning more every day. Thus, there should always be something of value that you can add to your web site.Presumably, you’ve created your web site to communicate something to the rest of the world. It could be that you want to write up your life story, explain about the mythology of the Greeks and Romans, or simply compile a list of the best blonde jokes. It’s possible that you even want to make a few dollars now and then by selling a nice product. Why settle for just getting someone to read what you’ve got to say and move on? Why not continually update your message so that your readers come back time after time to find out what new and wonderful things you’ve posted this week.

Think you’ve said everything that can be said about your subject? There are many options to this method of continual updates. You could add a message board to start virtual conversations with your visitors. Or perhaps you could add a weekly column (and associated ezine) to get people to come back. Even if you’ve said everything there is to say, perhaps you can add pictures, sound and videos or change the layout or presentation.

Be sure and let people know what’s new by including a “What’s New” section right on your front page. This serves to your visitors right to the new content immediately. It also lets them know that you are updating the site all of the time, which means they will want to come back again and again just to see what you have written or changed.

A periodic ezine is another way to stay in contact with your readers, letting them know what’s going on at your special website. Another great way to get people to come back is to become active in newsgroups or email discussion lists (such as egroups and topica). By posting useful information at these places you will get people wanting to come to your site to find out what else you’ve got to say.

Which, of course, leads back to the original premise of this article. If you want people to come back to your site, you had better be keeping it up-to-date, accurate and adding new content all of the time. Otherwise, your readers will grow tired and move on to greener pastures.

And that’s the saddest thing of all … an abandoned creation of love and passion.

Expired Domains Mean Real Opportunities

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

by: Richard Legg

If you have a website, you want traffic; lots and lots of traffic, as a matter of fact. You are well aware of the fact that there are now millions of Internet users out there, and among those millions, there may be at least one or two thousand web surfers every day looking for the exact services or products that you’re selling. But there’s a problem. How do you reach out to those potential customers and make them come to your site?

You probably have been very busy already with your Internet marketing. I would assume that you have submitted your site to the search engines, bought a few ads in a variety of e-zines, and perhaps even put up a couple of banners. So are you satisfied with the results you are getting from your efforts? You may have tried all that you know about promoting your site and your products, but are you getting the traffic that you wanted? If not, then maybe you need to look in other directions.

But don’t worry; you won’t have to resort to illegitimate methods just to get the traffic you need. There is a perfectly ethical and legitimate way to get traffic to your site, and it’s very effective, too. But what makes this method even better is that over 95% of the people on the World Wide Web have absolutely no clue about it at all. So, have I got your attention? Let me explain it to you a bit more in detail.

Have you ever considered using expired domains for pulling in traffic to your site? Probably not yet, but let me tell you, this is a great (but oftentimes overlooked) opportunity for you. Expired domains have a lot of wasted traffic coming to their site, and this traffic could be put to better use for you instead. If you’re lucky, you may even find a domain name that’s related to your business in Yahoo. This could save you an instant $200 off the Yahoo listing charge.

Think of the possibilities here. For the cost of a single domain name, there could be loads of traffic just waiting for you! It costs less than $10 to register a domain name nowadays, and coupled with the potential immediate traffic, you cannot find a better deal than this. It’s estimated that over 3 million visitors are hitting an expired domain every day. That is mostly targeted traffic, and I’m willing to bet that you’d like to get a piece of that action. If so, then it’s time to start working and get those wasted traffic to your site.

But why did these domains expire in the first place? There could be several reasons. Sometimes webmasters just get weary of all the work involved in developing and maintaining the site. Perhaps they become too busy with work or with their personal lives. Others may have carelessly let their domains expire without knowing it, and several may have met with financial problems, so they just stopped maintaining the site.

One good thing about this whole situation, though, is that the traffic that these expired domains have generated since the time they were active just keeps on coming. If you’re a virtual realtor in cyberspace, this could make for some very attractive real estate indeed. Registering expired domains need some careful research on your part, though. Most important of all, you have to be certain that the domain’s traffic isn’t coming from websites that you’d want to avoid at all costs, like porn sites or such.

Now, if you have done your job and made sure that the traffic is satisfactory, you have two options for taking advantage of your new domain. First option is to redirect the traffic from the previously expired domain to your own site. Second option is to sell off the domain, which could be very profitable for you, depending on how heavy the traffic is.

Using Blogs To Turbo-charge Your Seo Efforts!

Today I am going to finish off my mini article series by showing you a specific back door route, if you like, to topping the search engines

You may or may not have heard of blogs, which are sometimes called ‘web blogs’. These are essentially online diaries and at this moment in time everyone from 10 to 100 years of age seems to be blogging. Why? Because it’s simple, easy and fun.

We, however, will want to blog for another reason…to make money! Let me explain…

Blogs, or online diaries, are set up in a way that the search engines just love. They have good and relevant content, and they can often get tons and tons of links back to them.

The great thing about a blog is you can set one up without any web site experience whatsoever. If you go to blogger.com you can set up your own blog within five minutes. From there, using what you have learnt in these articles, you can start promoting either your own products or other peoples products (in exchange for a commission).

Another difference between a blog and a web site is that with a web site, each time you add a new article you have to create a new web page. With blogs each new post is a new web page in the search engines eyes. Bearing in mind that you can add a new blog post in less than five seconds I’m sure you can see the power of blogging for the search engines

So how do you go about blogging for profit? Well here’s a simple five step approach you can use to go and start earning today:

1) Go to blogger.com and set up a blog. Use your main keyword as the title of your blog. If it’s already taken call it “niche world” or “niche planet”. For example “rose gardening world”, “rose gardening planet”

2) Hire a writer or write your own optimised articles on your niche subject that specifically focus on one set of keywords. Create or have created at least ten articles.

3) Post an article a day to your blog.

4) Write a press releases about your blog and submit it to prweb.com

5) Use the blogger search function and find blogs related to yours. Make genuine comments on their blog and link back to yours.

Using this simple formula you can do very well in the search engines with minimal effort or technical know how.

Have you enjoyed these articles on SEO optimisation for the beginner? I hope you have, as I’ve loved writing them. This is a subject that both fascinates and excites me because I know how much is to be made!

How To Top The Search Engines The Easy Way!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

by: Andy Michaels

In this series of articles I am going to be talking to you about what is sometimes referred to as an “online science”. Now don’t panic, as always I aim to keep things as simple as possible. So spend the next few minutes with me and I assure you that you’ll be blown away with what I am about to talk to you about.

Let me start at the beginning…

As we are all aware, people use the Internet to search for information. By providing people with this information we can make a killing. We simply find out what people are searching for, and then we provide them with it. Simple!

Now here’s the thing. If you can “optimise” your web site to show up whenever people in your niche market search for information you can make a huge amount of money online. For example, if someone typed in “kidney stones cure” and you’re the top web site in Google for that search term you can pick up tons of free visitors to your site and explode your online income.

So many think that topping the search engines can only be done by huge companies, or those with massive budgets. The truth of the matter is it’s free when you know how. Over the course of a few articles I am going to show you step by step how to top the results for your keywords related to the service or products you sell. We’re going to be able to do it quickly, relatively easily and most importantly without spending a single penny.

So what do you need to do first? Well the first thing you need to do is create a large list of keywords directly related to your niche or service. You can do this by using http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

So let’s say you were selling a product on “how to grow the perfect rose garden”. You’d go to the above link and type in “rose garden”. Now make a huge list of all the keywords that show up that are directly related to rose gardening.

Once you’ve got a list of 50 or so keywords your ready to start optimising your site for the search engines. I’ll be showing you how to do that in the next article.

Please don’t let the name “search engine optimisation” put you off. It may sound technical and that you need to be some sort of online whizzkid to be able to do it, but the simple fact of the matter is do it correctly and it doesn’t need to be technical at all.

The Linking Strategy

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

by: Andy Michaels

In this article I’m going to be walking you through the second most important part of setting up your search engine optimized empire.

So what is it? What other factor coupled with your keyword dense articles will enable you to top giants like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Well it’s the online equivalent of getting “votes” for your web site. It is called getting links, and it is a hell of a lot easier than you think.

What are spiders and what purpose do they serve?

Spiders are essentially programs that “crawl” sites and report back to their superior (Google or whatever search engine they were created for) what their findings are. Their purpose is to make it easy for sites to get listed in search engines

You might be wondering, what does it mean to “crawl” a site? Well it means to visit a site and copy the information.

How do spiders work?

Spiders work by finding links to web sites, visiting those web sites, going through the content of a web site and then reporting the content of the site back to the database of the site which they are working for. Google spiders, thus, crawl sites and report the information back to Google’s database. From there, the information is added to Google’s search engine, and the site then shows up in Google search results. Much the same process happens with any other search engine spider.

So what does this mean to you? Well essentially by having good quality and relevant content on your web site (your optimized articles) you’ll be pleasing the spiders. If you have links from other sites related to your content too you’re way, way ahead of the pack.

Now here’s the clever part. All you need to do to get links back to your web site is submit articles to article directories or write a press release related to your niche market. Link back to your site from the bottom of that article or press release.

Other web site owners in your niche will be looking for content to add to their own site, and will visit article directories to do so. They’ll pick up your article, add it to their site (they’ll have to legally keep your link in the article) so now you have other sites linking to yours all over the place! This will impress the hell out of the spiders and you’ll start to rank extremely well in the search engines

To find article directories simply go to Google and type in “article directory” you will find absolutely tons!

There’s more…

As I said press releases are another great way to get links back to your web site. Not only that they are a great way to get free publicity for your ebook or web site. Write a press release and submit it to prweb.com. It will cost you a little to have them blast it all over the internet but it will mean that you get dozens, hundreds or even thousands of one way links back to your site catapulting you up the search engines

I hope you have enjoyed my last few articles. Search engine optimization is a subject with mind blowing potential. Imagine if you were ranked number one in Google for a term like Viagra? You’d be a millionaire without a doubt. That’s not our goal. Our goal is to rank number one for tons and tons of keywords related to our niche so we can start bringing in regular cash windfalls. Then we just create another product, get that to rank in the search engines and just keep on repeating until our monthly income is through the roof.

In my last article on this topic I am going to discuss how to get ranked in the fastest possible time.

The Anatomy of a Hot Google AdWords Ad

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

by: Kristina Mills

A Google AdWords Ad has four lines:

Line 1: Keyword-rich benefit headline

Before we talk about how to write a great Google Ad, let’s just go back to basics and get inside the head of someone who is using the Google Search Engine. Picture this … your website visitor is interested in finding something on the Internet so they type some keywords into the search engine. Up comes a search engine results page with a list of websites that matched their search terms.

Now, before we go any further let’s look inside the mind of the website visitor.

They have a problem or need.

They think “Aha, I’ll go and find out the answer to that on the net.”

They point their browser to Google.com and they think, ‘Mmmm … what should I type in the search box?’

Chances are, the keywords they type in are the actual item or items they’re looking for. So – let’s say they were looking for something to fix their eczema problem.

What do they type into the search engine?

Maybe they type “eczema treatment”. They press submit and they wait for the search results.

The search results come up and the website visitor scans the listing of results and while she’s doing that, she thinks to herself, ‘Mmm… eczema treatment, eczema treatment, eczema treatment.

Where can I find eczema treatment?’

So what is the best keyword or keywords to put in the headline of your Google Ad?

Yes, you got it – “eczema treatment”. The reason why this is so powerful is because it’s flagging down your reader. The headline is voicing what they are thinking.

For instance:

Eczema Treatment

Eczema Fixed Now

Eczema gone in 2 days!

Here’s another tip – capitalize the first letter of each word in the headline.

“Eczema cured in days” vs “Eczema Cured In Days”

See the difference?

Capitalizing the first letter of each word attracts more attention to the letters within the headline (which is obviously very important when you’re competing with a whole bunch of other ads as well as organic search engine listings).

Great! So you have a strong headline. The next information to include is as many action words as possible, to drive them to your website

Unfortunately there is no space for “how to” headlines or anything cute or catchy. About all you can do is mention the keyword with one or two action words surrounding it.

Line 2: Clear Benefit and Command

Eczema Cured in 2 Days!

Itching and Redness Gone. Try it

Line 3: Features and specifics

Eczema Cured in 2 Days!

Itching and Redness Gone. Try it

FREE. Permanent Results. No Drugs.

Line 4: Website Address (URL)

Always feature the URL in upper and lower case to make it stand out.

EczemaRemedyCures.com and not eczemaremedycures.com

Eczema Cured in 2 Days!

Itching and Redness Gone. Try it

FREE. Permanent Results. No Drugs.

EczemaRemedyCures.com
